Matthew French
Matt French’s practice focuses on oil and gas related litigation and business transactions. He represents clients in lawsuits relating to general business disputes, oil and gas lease disputes, mineral disputes, contract disputes, joint ventures, and other commercial litigation. Matt also regularly advises oil and gas service companies and other businesses as outside general counsel regarding their day to day operations, MSA review, entity formation, employment contracts, purchase and sale agreements, and acquisitions. He has helped many local oil and gas service companies from entity formation to profitable acquisitions. Matt also has an extensive practice advising mineral and land owners and litigating suits related to mineral and land disputes in the Permian Basin.
Prior to making Midland home, Matt started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for the 34th Judicial District out of El Paso, Texas, where he represented the State of Texas in criminal jury trials.
Matt received his BBA from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, where he was the Captain of the Men’s Golf Team, an All-Regional Selection and an individual qualifier for the NCAA Regional Men’s Golf Tournament. After graduating from UIW and prior to attending law school, he was the Men and Women’s Golf Coach at UIW. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Matt has lived all over the United States having grown up in a military family and takes great pride in his family’s military background. His mother is currently a Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army and both his sister and brother in law are Army veterans.
Matt is actively involved in the Midland community as a provider of pro bono legal services and commits his time to various efforts that benefit Texas Veterans and individuals with Autism. In his free time, you will find Matt on the golf course or with his English Sheepdog, Bailey.
